It’s a Suir thing
Carrick-on-Suir is a thing of the past, Clonmel is a thing of the present and Clogheen is a thing of the future. Here’s a pic of Carrick at its most atmospheric
The early morning mist cleared, the sun came out again although given I’m always walking southwest so any tan will be curiously lopsided, like a certain DC Comics character … the birds were chirping (or were they laughing, how can you tell?) and for once the path trail was flat with some ‘give’ which was a blessed relief. Instead of the average 2000 feet of ascent it was 203 so that’s good.
Carrick’s delights were mixed. The Dorm Deluxe I stayed in was absolutely fine with a great landlady host type person.. I asked her was good for an evening and she asked me if I’d like something exotic. Well dear reader my heart trembled and I barely knew what to say. Apparently they had a Chinese restaurant in town which is clearly what she meant so off I trotted. Seemed a shame to blow the diet and change from food that satisfied the criterion of being brown but hey a few vegetables won’t hurt will they. I’m glad to report that fellow diners ensured that the chips consumption per capita ratio was maintained.
Riverside walk was shared with cyclists as Carrick was the home of Sean Kelly, famous Irish cyclist (dope pedellar?) and had its picturesque moments
Clonmel from about 2 miles out so far wins friendliest town award … next two days are marathons with ca. 55 miles so thought it prudent to stop at lunchtime and recharge emotional and physical batteries with a rare pub trip, some vitamin g supplements and some sport
stroll ?on
