Threshold Housing Link is a local, Swindon-based independent charity that works to positively tackle homelessness and vulnerability issues. All our charitable activities focus on assisting people who are homeless or are threatened with homelessness. The charity’s objects are: “The relief of poverty, hardship, sickness and old age through the provision of accommodation, support and advisory services to those in need, in particular of persons who:

  1. by reasons of mental and physical infirmity are unable to fulfill their duties as citizens or their obligations to employers; or
  2. are homeless, ex-offenders and those with substance misuse issues and/or addictions; or
  3. are fleeing exploitation, abuse and violence”

In 1972 the charity was established as The Swindon Cyrenians by a group of local people, who rallied together, to provide soup to those found sleeping rough on the streets. Over the years there have been two name changes: 1998 from The Swindon Cyrenians to Thamesdown Housing Link (THL) and then in 2004 to Threshold Housing Link (Threshold), as we are known today.

The charity has developed 11 services to meet the needs of Swindon’s homeless community as identified by our own service users:

  • A Street Outreach Service – facilitating a day centre for 3 sessions a week and drop-in sessions at a breakfast club and evening soup run
  • A Direct Access Emergency Hostel – Culvery Court
  • A Substance Misuse Project – The Old Appleyard, mixed gender over 18 years of age
  • A Young Persons Project in two adjoining houses – Mullane House, mixed gender 16 to 21 years of age
  • A Women only house – Mireller House
  • 4 Men-only general needs supported accommodation resettlement schemes
  • A Rent Management Scheme – Key Scheme+, assisting people to access private accommodations
  • A Prolific Persistent Offenders scheme – 5 bedrooms, mixed gender

Each year over 750 people access our services for advice, support, advocacy or accommodation.
