Watershed moments
today the Watershed was crossed for the first time since Exmoor. Not much of place and at only 154 m seemed to my mind surprisingly low. For anyone interested apparently water flowing east here makes its way via the Penk, Sow and Trent to finally meander up to the Humber. I speak as someone who knows about meandering to finally reach a conclusion. And that’s just my writing style.
Other nominal watersheds du jour included crossing M54, A5/Watling Street, Shropshire Union Canal, various railway lines.
Truth be told the terrain was flat but the surface of that rutted break-yer-ankle if you don’t pay attention variety and the countryside fairly uninspiring, A day for plodding, sticking your hands in your pockets and whistling in a jaunty way saying hello to Mister Bluebird on your shoulder.
Also a day for remembering the reason for doing this. As the saying has it “There but for the grace of God…”. Having come perilously close to being homeless a couple of decades ago the homeless charities are close to my heart and the generosity of The Great British Public encountered en route has been touching. It does put some extra (needed!) spring in our steps.
So no great pics to share from the walk per se but here’s one from the end (here in Penkridge, Strava upload to follow)
Today’s milestone: have made it to Staffordshire.
47000 steps today…. Stroll on
