Take it to the bridge

having ambled alongside the river Amble a few days back and enjoyed beautiful small quaintly arched brick bridges dappled in watery afternoon sunshine as they took us over babbling brooks today we had the joy of these:

i realise I will have sent the pontists amongst you into veritable raptures with these but hey I’m a gift that keeps on giving. (For those of you unfamiliar with them they are the M5 bridge over the Avon and the M48 over the Severn – actually now I’ve inserted them it’s the other way around (one clue being the weather showing that we are in Wales)). All we can ask is next time you drive across either (because you wouldn’t be daft enough to walk across would you?) then do cast a glance to your left to see whether you can spot over-laden two-footed pack animals wistfully gazing at the view whilst walking with fingers in their ears and Asian style face-masks on. It’s a game the whole family can play.

Strava has recommended its syncing and so can prove we have made it here to Chepstow. Blimey we’ve walked to another country. We kind of had to given the start we had.

All together now: ahhhhhh…..

The dilemma we now have, making good progress and all, is to BtB or not to BtB. (for those not initiated into the Noble Guild BtB = Beating the Bounds = the annual perambulation of the village parish boundary). Having consulted wise sages it’s been pointed out that a final technique they use to try and break Special Forces trainees (not that I compare myself to them: more Special Needs Forces, me) is to give them a brief call home … and then they’re psychologically broken. So, it’s a fun day that we really enjoy however we have to choose between a pleasure day or giving ourselves every chance of completing an ultra long distance walk for charity….

milestones tumbled today:

1 – out of Bristol and into Gloucester, South Gloucester and Monmouthshire

2 – we are now officially north of Aldbourne – don’t know the official definition of north but we can now with some legitimacy claim that we are

3 – we have now done more than 25% of the miles

and to top a pretty good day Katharine Martin (once of the Aldbourne parish) and her partner Bob have incredibly kindly driven out here to lift our souls and spirits (and alcohol levels) … and serendipitously have been able to solve my bladder problem (that’s friendship for you) and another couple of kilos of Compeed for Becca have been delivered… Thank you.

another 40000 steps … Stroll on
