Stir Crazy
as well as the occasional half day I was advised to have a rest day now and again… the Strava record of what I walked is almost life-size. A very gentle stroll up the valley from Garrigill
into Alston. I tried to do everything really really slooooowwwwllllly this morning; leisurely breakfast not taken til 9 (what!) and packed the rucksack soooo neatly. It was like being back at high altitude, except for one difference. One guess as to what the weather has been like…. and straight into Alston TIC to ask for local highlights. “Well, there’s not much darling… you could try the short walk, of course today is early closing…”.
I’m sure that the emotional trauma will be outweighed by the physical benefits although to (over-)compensate I think I’ve heard tell of a kebab house in town…. idle feet are the devils playthings
this is the sort of countryside I could be enjoying
Milestones of the day : various crosswords and books
Millstone of the day : a resting day is a testing day, I’ll have another one after I finish.
stroll on… the sooner the better

You’ll be all the better for it tomorrow though – keep on trucking
And indeed I was… truckin’ along and suitably inspired to go get some Yorkie bars..
Agh, I don’t check your blog for a minute and it turns out to be a year, and you are still walking!
Anyway good luck to you, been busy celebrating Milton’s third birthday.
Currently watching Royals go for their fifth in a row! Starting pitching has gone five straight games pitching into the seventh allowing no more than one run. 1st in ERA, I’ve been right so far!
I will keep you informed on real sports teams while you are in the bush!
Good luck and cheers!
For a song suggestion try Comes a Time from you know who.
Great starting pitching, 10 hits and a home loss… we gotta win these games. Great to hear from you mate … and good choice of song, forever Young huh?! ?
Sounds like you are “enjoying ” your stroll. I had not realized your live would not be by your side….who are you talking to 24/7 ?
Stroll on….xxx
Whoops…read live as love.
How great to hear from you ? … yep, solo for the mo… Becca will meet me in Crianlarich for the final push… and yes, mostly enjoying it !!. Happy travels for you too, not long… hope I get to see you xx
Glad to hear you traversed the barren north without being eaten, tattooed, or forced to eat pan haggerty with stotty cake washed down with a pint of Newcastle Broon ale. Now you have entered the land of the Celts further problems are about to beset you. ( BTW! What happened to the Picts ? Are they Rangers supporters ?) Blue men in skirts, Kevin Costner and The Proclaimers all await the unsuspecting sassenach. No I am not going to add a link for the song ! The hail and snow should help hide those bloody mountains that get in the way of the scenery but knowing you, you probably want to do a Monroe or two. Marilyn comes to mind. Meanwhile lounging by Woobar infinity pool with a Vietnamese gin based cocktail with pineapple, shaved toasted almonds, angostura bitters, etc served in an ice cold copper cup I am struggling manfully on.
Welcome back to the blogosphere … just coming up for air are you?? … thought of you today, as I stumbled into Linlithgow there was a street sign saying Dark Entry
