On the level
After the scenic delights of the last few days it was back to level earth in eastern Somerset. Stagnant drainage ditches and rank streams were the ongoing order of the day. As an auspicious start to things we played what I guess is the local game in Bridgwater of ‘jump over the discarded needle, sidestep the used nappy and hop over the dog remains’. Who needs Internet eh?
i have developed a bladder problem: liquid running down the back of my legs is nothing new (years of playing and watching rugby have prepped me well), but the sodden clothing is getting a nuisance. So the Camelbak (of course that’s what I was talking about) needs replacing and thankfully Plan B(ladder) is in operation.
as foreshadowed yesterday we are now getting good northward bang for our mileage buck. Same old same old on the mean feet front … they don’t exactly skip a beat or two when King’s Sedgemoor Drain or the Huntspill River Pumping Station starting looming on the low horizon. So trudge, plod and shuffle were ambulatory words of the day. However we are now ensconced in gorgeous Cheddar (courtesy of Day One Kat and her fantastic family) and this is our starting route tomorrow over the Mendips
Today’s milestone: 20% of miles done. However, I made a bit of a faux pas (see what I did there?) with tomorrow’s mileage. It is not 19 miles as advertised but 27 .. a bit of a beast with some up and down particularly at the start .. should probably let Becca know, but hey, why spoil the fun….?
42000 of them today … stroll on!

17.7 miles if you walk past Bristol airport. Which route are you taking??
Becca – apparently surgical tape is as good as the expensive blister cover stuff.
