‘ee ‘ello
one of those days when the paths seemed a bit longer underfoot than on the map, a bit boggier than the guidebook advised, when that blasted Yellow Orb in The Firmament blazed down a tad too strongly, the prairies seemed endless, when stiles seemed to be either falling apart or very narrow (especially for my thunder thighs) or going through holly hedges, when farmyards seemed labyrinthine even for seasoned escapologists such as us and when you just know your water was going to run out…
when you get to your lodging for the night and learn that no nearby pub is serving food, when a takeaway delivery isn’t possible and there is only one option: get those boots back on and go walk another few miles round trip to get food, ale, mobile signal and wifi (I’m a serial blogger dontcha know?!) in the next village over t’hill
that’s when you want good hearty food…. decent pints … and something to really put a smile on A Man Of A Certain Age’s face,.. taking me back to teen years, wide and very short school ties, buckles aplenty on your belt … music to sing-a-long to no matter who’s listening …. what else could it be … but … well the title gave it all away: ELO ? … Come on now, who isn’t smiling? (for the musical memories if nothing else)
the milestones keep tumbling much like i do when presented with a downhill steep slope: now in Derbyshire (arguably our 13th administrative area), 40% of miles now completed and less than a month of the scheduled walking to do … Can we continue to do the ‘straw foot, hay foot’ (thank you OCDJ) for less than a month more?
Stay tuned to this channel … This is a sense of what is to come next
Me thinks they’ll be higher and steeper the closer we get to them .. tomorrow
48000 more steps today … Stroll on
