And there’s moor…

Guess what that is?

the forecast yet again was for clouds and rain – and yet again was accurate. Fortunately my lap of luxury abode were able to leave out for me sufficient so that I could grab a bite and be on the trail by 6:30 and enjoy 2+ hours sunshine. One of the surprising things has been the lack of other walkers around, despite the Bank Holiday weekend … I’ve thought about it and have concluded that the high wind, cold and driving rain probably has something to do with it.

The route description for today frequently mentioned it might be wet underfoot… ‘wet’ and ‘bit’ were under statements and ‘underfoot’ whilst completely accurate only told half the story. At one stage the advice was “go across Mudbeck, turn right at The Bog and then turn left at God’s Bridge”, sounded like something Pratchett would have come up with.

there was another man-made highlight : yep, I got my kicks crossing the A66 (? Not bad? 5 out of 10?). Anyway it got me to Middleton in Teasdale, County Durham. The town seems full of animal lovers, caring types, always asking if your pet is alright (? I know… 2 out of 10?). I’m on the lookout for the local celebrity, been told to look out for her all the way in, name as I understand it, of Heather Moorland (? better? 4 out of 10?)… give me a break, it was a long long walk, partially due to mis-estimating and also getting confused on the moors around some place called Whaw; yep there’s a Whaw Moor and I figured my meandering could be personalised in my name, I guess a Whaw Me-Moor-ial (back of the net !!).

Miles today turned out to be a little over 27.. and apparently 56,000 steps (admittedly some of them in the same place as I traide to escape the clutches of the Peat Bog Monster (many limbed)).

Milestone of the day: reaching County Durham.

easter Sunday and I’ve seen the rabbits run so now off for chocolate
