Take it to the Ridge

Yeah baby, self-referential riffing (for any newcomers or sporadic users please see blog of a few days back)….. ANYWAY … Here in Kington and the route in is along The Ridge and here it is:

For those unaware this is Hergest Ridge, yep, that ridge where Mike Oldfield used to go at the crack of Ommadawn to get away from the bells (and two … slightly distorted … GUITARS!).

whilst we won’t be staying long here it has to be said that The Swan is a perfect place to go after a long long tiring day … Kath and Ian, thank you. Quality and quantity in food, booze and spirit. We have also been lucky to find ourselves at a BandB where Adam the host is exactly what was needed.

did I mention the long long tiring day? We were expecting about 23 miles but it was nearer 27 in the end. A bit of a push. Great scenery continues

however the last 5 miles were compounded by a couple of cul-de-sac fields that seemed to vastly more amuse the ovine inhabitants than two not so happy non campers like us. I guess it was at least sunny.

so, we’re past Hay on Wye. Becca was aware of its connection with the literary world but less so that of the silver screen. Sure Wales has produced classic actors such as Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins, Rob Brydon and Charlotte Churvh but she didn’t know about some of the great films, admittedly some of them remade, like: Bridge Over The Rivet Wye, Dai Hard, A Bridgend Too Far, Dial M For Merthyr, Nil By Monmouth, Look Back in Bangor…

only less than 800 miles to go

today’s milestones: we have briefly been in Powys and Herefordshire … and 30% of miles done.

60000 steps today (I know I know) …. another biggie tomorrow … stroll on
